Motivation! In the form of celebrity! On Friday I downloaded the Serena Williams and Lance Armstrong Nike+iPod running workouts. I took Serena with me on the road this morning.
The workouts are 30 (for Serena) or 40 (for Lance) minute runs, with play lists "selected" by them. They are interval workouts, so besides giving encouragement during the songs, they call out different times to push it faster for 1 minute or 3 minutes, and then to go slower during recovery times.
I haven't interval trained before, but if I'm serious about the American Odyssey, then I need to increase my endurance and my speed.
And, I need to be serious about the Odyssey. You, too, Keith! Melissa has the team and is going to register us. I think she's going to send out an e-mail asking for ages and paces and such. And, for the record, I already claimed the easiest run segments!
So, back to Serena. It wasn't bad. I'm anxious to do it a few more times and see if I get a farther distance because I can go faster during the speed intervals. Also interested to try Lance's - 40 minutes is a big jump from 30!

Whoa! Sounds way cool. Any other stars besides Serina and Lance. Was kinda hoping for the Elizabeth Taylor Fried Chicken Run or the Chris Farley Cardio Fricassee. Would settle for the Belushi Burger Buns of Steel with Extra Cheese workout if they have it. Just asking. Seriously, sounds way cool!
I'm not too sure about that. 40 minutes of Lance Armstrong yelling at me is a little scary to me.Speaking of scary, let's talk about this American Odessey thing. As I understand it, I'm expected to run 3 legs of 7-8 miles each and in between that ride in a van with many sweater runners.Staying awake for about 36 hours. Is this correct? I remember the good old days, when one could go for a nice workout... then sit back in Adirondack chairs at the Four seasons.
AAAWWWW! I wanna go back to Jackson Hole!
